Morgan Hefty

Morgan Hefty joined the board in March 2017. He is a third generation State Farm Insurance agent in Auburn. Morgan and his wife Becky have four children: Paxton, Wyatt, Lucy and Cooper. They attend County Line Church. Morgan has served in leadership roles with several other community organizations. He believes in giving back to the community and helping those who may need physical or spiritual guidance during tough times. Morgan enjoys hunting, fishing, and watching his children play sports.

Joe Heins

Joe Heins has served with the board since 2012. He serves as Executive Director of Woodburn Christian Children Home and serves on the Board of Directors for both Golden Years Homestead and West African Christian Mission. He was formerly Senior Minister of Auburn Church of Christ. Joe and his wife Vikki have been married 20+ years and they have four children. Joe enjoys golf, reading and baking. ​Joe has a heart to experience God’s grace as the Lord uses Hearten House to meet people’s spiritual, emotional and physical needs.

Carol Klink

Carol Klink has served on the board since it’s inception. She owns and operates Klink Trucking, Inc. Carol was married to Wayne for 50+ years, they have two married daughters, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She enjoys worshiping with the Stroh Church of Christ. Carol enjoys quilting and knitting. Carol’s heart is helping children and adults to be all they can be.

Bob Krafft

Bob Krafft began serving on the board January of 2020. He and his wife Teri, a teacher at Lakewood Park Christian School, reside outside Auburn.  They have been blessed with three children and four grandchildren which are his favorite things in this world.  He loves his LORD Jesus Christ who saved him spiritually in 1979 as a lost 15-year-old and then physically in 2013 with a life-saving liver transplant. Bob brings over thirty years of nonprofit leadership to our board, having previously served Youth For Christ Campus Life and the National Military History Center.  He currently serves as CEO of the YMCA of DeKalb County.  Hearten House has been blessed by the YMCA welcoming our residents to use the facility. 

Lynette Schlemmer

​Lynette Schlemmer began serving on the board April 2021 and has served on the Hearten House Committee.  She and her husband Dave, attend St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in St. Joe.  Lynette retired from Nucor Corporation and enjoys family, friends and helping others.  Lynette feels blessed DeKalb County has a place to offer women in need a safe place to receive spiritual fulfillment and a new start.

Shelley Smaltz

Shelley Smaltz is a senior commercial real estate appraiser for Good Valuation, Inc. in Auburn and has achieved the prestigious MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute.  Shelley has a heart for community service currently serving as a member of City of Auburn Redevelopment Commission and volunteering for many organizations over the years.  She and her husband Ben have two adult children and one grandchild. Shelley values her family and her “framily” believing God desires us to be part of a community. She loves seeing women lifting each other up and letting their lights shine before others. 

Jeremy Carnahan

Jeremy is an office industry leader for the Construction & Real Estate Practice and is a member of the Commercial Products Practice. He has provided tax planning and business consulting services to private equity and family-owned companies for more than 17 years.

His experience includes accounting method improvement, cost segregation and energy incentive consulting for real estate owners, entity structuring and reorganization, multistate taxation, and representation before the IRS.

Jeremy is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and Indiana CPA Society.

He was recognized as a top CPA under 35 by Indiana Business Magazine and named to the 40 Under 40 Class of 2010 by the Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly. Jeremy serves on the finance committee and board of the Community Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Indiana, Inc. In 2010, he received the Charles B. Fine Friend of the Food Bank Award.

Jeremy is a 2002 cum laude graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, with B.S. degrees in accounting and finance.
